Arlene S. (Standera) Kuhn, 88, of Dunkirk, died on October 21, 2024 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born on October 28, 1935 in Dunkirk to the late Walter and Sophia (Muszalski) Standera.
Following her graduation from Dunkirk High School in 1953, she went to work as a secretary at the local Dunkirk Trust Company branch. In 1957, she married Richard E. Kuhn. After their three childrer were born, she left her secretarial job to become a full-time mother and homemaker. She enjoyed family camping trips, socializing with friends, and sewing clothing for herself and matching Easter dresses for her two girls. For 56 consecutive years, she bowled in a Lucky Lanes league.
Arlene was an active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, an enthusiastic planner of many Class of ’53 reunions, and a longtime secretary for the Lake Shore Satellite of the Niagara Mohawk Retirees Club. After her children were grown, she enjoyed traveling to many countries, including Italy, Poland, Spain, El Salvador, Mexico, Greece, and France. Cruises to Tahiti, Hawaii, Alaska, Greece, Bermuda, and the Bahamas were highlights of her life. She took great pleasure in photographing the various locales, organizing the photos, and reminiscing about her adventures. However, while she delighted in roaming the globe, her fondest memories were of vacationing with her husband and young children throughout this country.
She is survived by her three children, Elise (David) Covino of Bradenton, FL, James Kuhn of Fredonia and Sandra Kuhn of Dunkirk; four grandchildren Marissa Griffis, Gregory and Eric Kuhn and Scott Covino; three great-grandchildren Oliver Kuhn, Otto Kuhn and Cooper Graves. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
For many years after her husband passed away in 1991, she enjoyed a very active social life with her loving companion, Lawrence McQuiggan.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Alvin Standera.
