Argentina Vs Colombia Prediction: The Panel's Best Bets & Copa America 2024 Final Preview

Argentina Vs Colombia Predictions

Argentina and Colombia will face off in the Copa America 2024 final in Miami in the early hours of Monday morning (1am, Premier Sports 1).

La Albiceleste defeated Canada in the semi-finals to punch their ticket to the final and will now aim to win their second successive crown following their triumph in 2021.

Lionel Scaloni’s men face a Colombia side, who reached the final for the first time since 2001. Having fallen short in semi-finals in two of the last three tournaments, Colombia booked their spot with a narrow win over Uruguay.

The contest was marred by unsavoury scenes after the final whistle. Nestor Lorenzo’s side will hopefully put those events behind them to focus on winning only their second title.

UK betting sites have installed Argentina as strong favourites to win the final. The Panel have looked at those odds along with others for their three predictions.

Argentina Vs Colombia Prediction: La Albiceleste To Complete Shut Out Win

Argentina are the current kings of world football. Scaloni has turned a team of nearlymen into World Cup winners and the precipice of a second Copa America crown in three years.

Other than their scare against Ecuador in the quarter-finals, when a stoppage-time Kevin Rodriguez effort ended their incredible defensive record, Argentina have been solid at the back.

They’ve kept clean sheets in four of their five matches at the tournament, and eased past Canada in the semi-finals with a repeat of their 2-0 win from the group stage.

Scaloni has match-winners all over the pitch and Colombia will have to be flawless to stop them. Lorenzo’s men were gritty in their last-four win over Uruguay.

Colombia secured their place in the final courtesy of Jefferson Lerma’s strike and held out despite playing the second half with 10 men following Daniel Munoz’s dismissal. They were clinical in a 5-0 win over Panama in the quarter-finals, but Argentina are operating at another level.

The Panel are anticipating a close game between two sides that have quality players in the final third. Argentina have found the winning habit in major tournaments of late, and their defensive resilience at the back should carry them over the line.

Argentina Vs Colombia Tips: Can Messi Provide A Goal?

Lionel Messi was at his influential best against Canada. The 36-year-old notched Argentina’s second to put the game beyond their opponents’ reach, turning Enzo Fernandez’s strike past Maxime Crepeau.

Argentina have not been as reliant on his skills as they have in previous tournaments. Lautaro Martinez has been their key man in front of goal, although he was left out of the starting line-up in the semi-finals. Messi remains the constant in Argentina’s deep pool of attacking players.

His record against Colombia in the Copa America is not great, failing to score past El Tri in five matches.

He has netted three times in World Cup qualifying action and provided two assists in six games. The Panel believe he has gone too long without making an impact against Colombia in the Copa America.

Messi may not get another chance to shine in the final of the tournament, so odds of 4/6 for the Argentina skipper to score or assist stand out for The Panel on betting apps

Argentina Vs Colombia Tips: Look Out For Lerma Card

Lerma played the pivotal role in Colombia’s semi-final win over Uruguay finding the back of the net in the first half. The Crystal Palace midfielder also scored in his side’s 2-1 win over Paraguay in the group stage.

He has had an eventful competition, missing the quarter-final triumph over Panama due to suspension. Lerma was booked twice during the group stage and that has caught The Panel’s eye, especially considering his record in the Premier League for Palace last season.

Lerma earned eight yellow cards in only 28 matches, averaging a card every 3.4 games. He was not prolific in terms of fouls, but the midfielder is a player that likes to play on the edge.

This contest has all the hallmarks of a fiery game, and it would be a surprise not to see Lerma involved in a challenge or two. That could draw the ire of referee Raphael Claus. The Panel like the odds of 29/10 for Lerma to pick up a card in the final.
