Argentina v Colombia Betting Tips, Odds & Match Preview – Copa America

Must read

Argentina and Colombia will wrap up the 48th edition of the Copa America when they face off in the Final on Sunday evening in the Hard Rock Stadium, Florida.

Bleary-eyed viewers in the UK will have to stay up until 1am to catch the action, and there are plenty of interesting angles to this clash.

Argentina, who are the current title holders, have become a near unstoppable force in world football, reaching the final in six of their last eight major tournaments (World Cups and Copa America).

A 2-0 victory over Canada in the semi-finals ended their opponents’ fairytale run as they were making their debut in the tournament.

Colombia, meanwhile, extended their unbeaten sequence to a team-record 28 games, but they had to show some dogged determination to eke out a 1-0 win over Uruguay.

In terms of team news, Julian Alvarez is likely to retain his starting berth ahead of Lautaro Martinez for Argentina, while Santiago Arias is likely to cover at right-back for Colombia following Daniel Munoz’s dismissal in the semi-finals.

Argentina v Colombia Match Preview

Argentina have had a vice-like grip on the Copa America crown, and they aren’t ready to relinquish that just yet.

Gunning for a 16th title is a tantalising proposition, and so far this tournament, they have conceded just once, and that came against Ecuador in the quarter-finals before they prevailed on penalties.

Lionel Scaloni’s men may have had to weather an early storm against surprise package Canada in the last four, but they sparkled after that and found their groove.

Colombia, on the other hand, faces the ultimate test against Argentina, but the renaissance of James Rodriguez will have given them palpable belief they can defy the odds.

Indeed, Rodriguez has been instrumental for Colombia, and his assist against Uruguay was his sixth of the tournament, the highest tally by a player since the 2011 edition (five).

Argentina rarely comes up a cropper against Colombia, but it could be a tighter game than many people might envisage.

For the first of my Argentina vs Colombia betting tips, I’m going with La Albiceleste to pinch the game by one goal, and I have located intriguing odds of 5/2 with Paddy Power.

Lionel Messi to make his imprint on the final

While many fans will find it hard to accept, Lionel Messi’s days in an Argentina shirt appear to be fast drawing to a close.

After reaching another Copa America final, Messi who has had to tackle questions over when he will retire, will want to add to what is already a gleaming trophy cabinet.

His appetite for success is insatiable, although compared to previous Copa America editions, he had to wait until the win over Canada to get off the mark.

Messi, who has made 38 appearances at the Copa America, has now scored in six different editions of the tournament, and were this to be his last game for his national team, he will want to bow out in style.

To round off my Argentina vs Colombia betting tips, I have a hunch Messi will rattle home a double, and the 10/1 price stumped up by BetVictor is worth a flutter.
