With the March 2025 security patch, Google is rolling out the stable Android 15 QPR2 update and a Pixel (Feature) Drop for the 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Tablet, Fold, 8, 8 Pro, 8a, 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold. This is the last major update to Android 15 and has some notable changes/additions.
Android 15 QPR2 replaces Do Not Disturb with customizable “Modes.” In this complete overhaul, DND becomes just another Mode with the ability to create multiple. Other existing ones that get transferred over are Bedtime, Flip to Shhh, Game Dashboard, and Pixel Stand.
Start by choosing a name and icon. You can “Set a schedule” to have a Mode turn on automatically:
- Day and time
- Calendar events: Any calendar or specific calendar
Your “Notification filters” can be Allow all notifications or:
- People: Messages, Calls
- Apps: Selected apps, None
- Alarms & other interruptions: Alarms, Media sounds, Touch sounds, Reminders, Calendar events
“Display settings” include:
- Display options for filtered notifications
- Grayscale
- Keep the screen dark
- Dim the wallpaper
- Enable dark theme
Visit the Settings app > Modes to create, while you can enable them from the new Quick Settings Tile. There’s an inline menu, with the icon appearing in the status bar and lockscreen. Multiple Modes can be enabled at the same time.
Go to Settings > Notifications for Notification cooldown: “When you receive many notifications within a short time, your device will lower its volume and minimize alerts for up to 2 minutes. Calls, alarms, and priority conversations are not affected.”
When you only have one keyboard/language in Gboard, the globe icon will no longer appear in the bottom-right corner. Battery percentage rings now appear in the Bluetooth Device details page, while a live image is used in the QS Tile.
Other changes in the Android 15 QPR2 Pixel update include:
- Themed icons in Pixel Launcher > Wallpaper & style no longer have the “Beta” badge
- Toast messages are accompanied by the app’s icon
- The QR code when sharing Wi-Fi credentials now makes use of a Material You shape
- The Linux kernel for all Pixel devices — 6 to 9 Pro Fold — have been updated to version 6.1.99
There are 31 security issues resolved in the Android 15 March patch dated 2025-03-01 and 13 for 2025-03-05. The vulnerabilities range from “High” to “Critical” severity. Google says CVE-2024-43093 and CVE-2024-50302 are “under limited, targeted exploitation.”
