ESCANABA — Monday’s U.P. State Fair race wasn’t any ordinary race for Wyatt Ammel.
It was Ammel’s first career feature win of the season, a race that he dedicated to his uncle Cole Gustafson, who died four days prior.
“Tonight was good,” Ammel said. “I was really determined going into this race. I did this one for my Uncle Cole.”
The feature win Monday night all but cemented him as the youth micro sprints champion. All Ammel needs is to take the green flag on championship night to clinch the title. Ammel raced consistent all season as he put together his best season in three full years of racing.
Ammel also stated he would not be able to do it with out his sponsors which include Flat Rock Grocery, White Birch Tavern, Swallow inn and McNutt & Sons Trucking as well as all the family for support and the fans that cheer for him.
Ammel looks to secure the track championship on Aug. 24 as the Escanaba Speedway closes out the 2024 regular season.
