My laptops finally given up the ghost, so Prime Day has landed just in time for an upgrade. According to our tech writer, this is one of the best Lenovo laptop deals.

A two-in-one Chromebook, the Lenovo IdeaPad duet 3 detaches from its keyboard cover, so you can use it as an 11in tablet. It runs on the mobile Chrome operating system, so, you can’t use regular Windows apps here, but it can do everything your web browser can do while letting you access Google Play Store apps for more creative tasks, such as picture editing. The top-spec model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage currently has £150 off, ahead of Prime Day.

Sometimes the best deals are on the products we need, rather than the exciting things we want (read Meta Quest 3). As such, I’m stocking up on dishwasher tablets while they are half price.

Landing in our review of the best cordless drills, Bosch’s professional cordless combi drill is now better than half price. Hailed by our writer as ideal for small, internal jobs, it has 20 torque settings and a chuck capacity of 10mm. Our reviewer added that it “came into its own for overhead jobs, tight corners, and inside cupboards and drawers”. It also features an LED light, which made sure our tester “had a well-lit working environment”. This isn’t a deal to pass up if you’re after a top-rated, tried and tested model.

Featuring different speed settings and a whitening mode, the Pro 3 left our tester with that “‘just been to the dentist’ feeling”. Now, a 60 per cent saving on the toothbrush is something to smile about, too.

It wouldn’t be an Amazon sales event without a deal on an Echo smart speaker. And while the main event hasn’t started yet, you can already save 55 per cent on the 5th gen model.

The smart speaker features a room-temperature sensor, which can be synced up with compatible smart home devices, such as a fan or heater. Plus, in-built privacy controls include a button to disconnect the microphone.

Powered by the fastest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, it can “handily replace your laptop when coupled with a keyboard case or Bluetooth mouse and keyboard”, our reviewer added. With a 15 per cent discount ahead of Amazon Prime Day, there’s a £200 saving to be secured.

Being an Amazon event, Prime Day often sees some of the best savings on the retailer’s own devices – think Echo dot smart speakers, Fire TV sticks and Fire TVs, plus Kindle ereaders. If you’re after the latter, you’ll have to wait until the main event.

If previous years are anything to go by, we can expect the paperwhite (£149.99, Amazon.co.uk) and the kids’ version (£139.99, Amazon.co.uk) to be discounted, as well as plenty of savings on Kindle books.
