The city of Alma will be getting some infrastructure upgrades in the near future.
During their meeting last week, city commissioners unanimously approved resolutions totaling nearly $15 million that will be used for a variety of projects.
Commissioner Danny Wernick was absent.
Commissioners authorized a contract with Crawford Contracting of Mt. Pleasant for $9.4 million to replace about 1.5 miles of water mains, road construction, hydrant replacements, sewer improvements and the replacement of 112 lead sewer lines.
The bid was the lowest of the four received.
Kalin Construction of Sodus, located south of Grand Rapids near the Indiana border, was awarded the contract for the half-mile Pine Avenue reconstruction project at a cost of $3.19 million.
The busy section of street includes three schools, an adult foster care home and medical offices.
Eight contractors submitted bids for the work.
The lone bidder to replace water meters throughout the city came from Ferguson Waterworks of Kentwood. The cost will be $1.478 million.
LC United of Sterling Heights was awarded the contract to paint the city’s water tower at a cost of $468,000. It was the lowest of five bids received.
The final infrastructure project approved was the replacement of the water storage tank’s control building at a cost of $311,000. The bid was awarded to Corrigan Construction of Brighton. It was the lowest of the two bids received.
