In a big promotion for one of its rising stars, ABC News has named Rachel Scott senior political correspondent, covering both President Trump’s White House and Congress.
The promotion for Scott comes as ABC News sets its D.C. coverage, joining other networks in shifting some on-air talent around in connection with the new administration.
Scott previously served as ABC’s senior congressional correspondent (she was on Capitol Hill on Jan. 6, 2021), and was ABC’s lead correspondent covering the Trump campaign over the past year. She led coverage of the assassination attempt on Trump’s life in Pennsylvania, and also had the newsmaking interview with Trump at last year’s National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago.
“ABC News’ Washington D.C. team is the best in the industry, reporting on the issues which have real impact on our audience,” said ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic. “Rachel Scott’s meteoric rise is a reflection of her dogged reporting to get to the heart of every story, and in this new role, I’m confident she will continue to rise to the occasion.”
Scott joins ABC News’ chief White House correspondent Mary Bruce, who will continue to lead the team at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, as well as Selina Wang, Karen Travers and Mary Alice Parks.
The White House producing team will include Molly Nagle and Michelle Stoddart, who both covered the Biden White House for ABC News, as well as Hannah Demissie and Kelsey Walsh, who were campaign reporters for ABC News in the 2024 cycle.
Rick Klein is ABC’s Washington bureau chief, with chief Washington correspondent and This Week co-anchor Jonathan Karl, chief global affairs correspondent and This Week co-anchor Martha Raddatz, chief justice correspondent Pierre Thomas and senior national correspondent Terry Moran continuing in their roles.
Correspondent Elizabeth Schulze will continue to cover the intersection of business, economics and politics, with radio national correspondent Steven Portnoy and correspondent Alex Presha also reporting out of D.C.
