A local AI expert weighs in on President Trump’s $500B AI infrastructure plan

President Trump announced a $500 billion initiative to develop an artificial intelligence infrastructure called “Stargate,” which he said is essential for protecting the United States in emergencies, including energy provision.

“The project is needed to protect the U.S. in the event of an emergency,” Trump said, emphasizing the importance of the initiative.

According to Trump, tech company executives are expected to fund the project. However, Elon Musk, a Trump ally and billionaire entrepreneur, expressed skepticism about the availability of such funds.

Musk said, “The money is not available,” casting doubt on the feasibility of the ambitious project.

An AI expert at Nazareth University weighed in on the project.

“They’re projecting around 100,000 jobs created from this initiative, so that’s a fairly big number,” said Jeffery Allan, director of the Institute for Responsible Technology at Nazareth University. “But in addition to that, it’s jobs which are in a more emerging sector which will be more AI proof, if you will, and that’s something that gets talked a lot as we think about AI. How is it going to affect workers?”

The AI project is reportedly set to begin at a data center in Texas and expand to other states.
