U.S. News & World Report just released its ranking of the best children’s hospitals in the country, and Cincinnati Children’s, along with Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, made the top 10. Both hospitals were tied for No. 1 in the Midwest.

Here are the top 10 children’s hospitals in the country for this year:

  • Boston Children’s Hospital.
  • Children’s Hospital Colorado, Aurora.
  • Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
  • Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
  • Children’s National Hospital, Washington, D.C..
  • Cincinnati Children’s.
  • Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
  • Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego.
  • Seattle Children’s Hospital.
  • Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston.

Last year, when U.S. News gave each top 10 hospital a ranking, Cincinnati Children’s was the No. 1 children’s hospital in the country. This year, U.S. News considers all 10 hospitals to be tied for first place.

The rankings are meant to help families make informed decisions about their children’s health, said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News, especially those with complex medical issues.

“When confronted with the daunting task of selecting a hospital for their child’s specialized medical needs, parents and caregivers can use U.S. News’ evaluation of pediatric hospital performance,” said Harder.

Cincinnati Children’s specialty care is within top 5 in the U.S.

In addition to being a top 10 hospital overall, Cincinnati Children’s also made U.S. News’s top five list for various specialties. The lists are determined by metrics such as data on surgery outcomes and the results of a survey of more than 36,000 physicians.

Children’s was ranked the No. 1 hospital in the country for pediatric cancer care, third for pediatric orthopedics and third for pediatric neurology and neurosurgery.

Cincinnati Children’s and Kentucky Children’s Hospital Joint Heart Program ranked fifth in the nation for pediatric cardiology and heart surgery.

Finally, Cincinnati Children’s and Nationwide Children’s Hospital were both within the top 50 hospitals for pediatric and adolescent behavioral health.
