PICKENS, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Officials said a portion of U.S. Highway 176 running through Pickens County is closed indefinitely due to damage from Hurricane Helene.

The highway is closed from Sunset Community Road to North Carolina. Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative said they are working with the South Carolina Department of Transportation to rebuild infrastructure there.

Aerial footage shows a bridge washed out on Cleo Chapman Highway in the closed area.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area and officials said they have not finalized a detour route.

If you are traveling to North Carolina, use S.C. Highway 130 or U.S. Highway 276.
