SILVER CREEK — After seven years, the Village of Silver Creek has concluded the final phase of the Inflow and Infiltration capital project. The Village Board approved a payment regarding the project at a recent meeting.
The Inflow and Infiltration project was deemed necessary to keep ground water and storm water from mixing with sewage and exceeding the capacity of the water treatment plants. The Village was under a federal mandate to complete the project and will be monitored over the next year to evaluate the results.
“We’ve done everything that they’ve requested of us,” Silver Creek Mayor Jeff Hornburg said.
Hornburg also alluded to more payments coming regarding the project now that it has been completed. “You’re going to feel a little bit more pain when we get the final bills, I’m sorry to say. There’s no way around it,” Hornburg said.
The Village Board also recently authorized a budget transfer to pay for the Walnut Creek Bank Stabilization Project near the Village Ballpark. A $30,000 grant was awarded to the Village over a year ago, but the Village was unable to find someone capable of doing the necessary work.
This year, the Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District took on the project, which required the drilling of limestone into the cliff to keep it in place. Because of the necessary work, the Village expected to need to contribute approximately $20,000 to complete the project. Instead, the budget transfer to cover the cost was much lower, in the amount of $14,554.44.
Also of note, only one bid was received by the Village for a provider of Village Trash Bags. The bid, submitted by WasteZero of Raleigh, NC, was approved unanimously by the Village Board at a cost of $0.32475 per bag. The Board also accepted the resignation of Department of Public Works employee Autumn Ellis at its recent meeting.
The next mobile food pantry event will be Tuesday, Sept. 24, beginning at 11 a.m., at the Village Municipal Parking Lot. The monthly event is sponsored by the Silver Creek Food Pantry, FeedMore of WNY, and the Village of Silver Creek. The Village is seeking volunteers to donate their time with distribution of the items, especially now that school is underway. The Village begins preparing the items to be distributed at 10 a.m., with the event usually concluding by 12:30 p.m.
The Village of Silver Creek will hold a public hearing prior to its next scheduled meeting of the Village Board on Monday, Oct. 7, to discuss the Community Development Block Grant status regarding the Hideaway Bay Resort of Adventure Sports Development, LLC.
The Village also held a public hearing regarding the proposed Victory Garden project at the site of the former Revere Inn at its recent meeting, with several representatives from the Garden Club in attendance to discuss how the project will proceed in the coming months. The Planning Board approved the project, and the Village is awaiting financial figures for the project itself.
