Lubavitcher artist Shneor Lipsker conducted a creative social experiment at a shopping mall in Bet Shemesh, Israel, featuring a portrait of the Rebbe that he had drawn.

He placed the artwork on an easel with a sign inviting passersby to mark where they believed corrections were needed. When he returned later, the portrait was covered in circles, indicating areas people thought required improvement.

In the second phase of the experiment, Lipsker again left the painting on display, but this time with brushes and paint, encouraging those who felt it needed changes to make the corrections themselves. When he returned, not a single person had altered the artwork.

Reflecting on the experience, Lipsker commented, “Everyone can criticize and tell you where you’re lacking, but only you can truly correct and improve.”

When a viewer expressed concern over the damage to the Rebbe’s portrait, Lipsker reassured them that the marks were made with an erasable marker.
