The Chinook Sugarbeeters football team bounced back to defeat Harlem on Friday night, (66-0). The Beeters forced three second half turnovers, had a punt block, and started the game off with a safety.
Carson Nissen had a big night, taking a 33-yard rush to the house to give Chinook an (8-0) lead at the 8:41 mark of the first. After a Harlem punt, Ryan Bell found Nissen down the field for a 24-yard score and with the conversion gave Chinook a (16-0) edge.
After the blocked punt, Owen Davies found the end zone from a yard out and it was (22-0) in the blink of an eye. Bell threw a dime on the next drive after the defense got off the field, hitting Jameson Nordboe for a 35-yard connecting score. The first quarter ended (30-0), Chinook.
Patrick McKenzie played quarterback for a majority of the game, rushing for two scores, the first of which came from nine yards out in the second quarter at 9:13. The Wildcats put together an 11-play drive towards the end of the half, but Chinook’s defense stood firm and held Harlem out of the end zone, not once, but twice to end the half. Nissen would come back from the half and take the kickoff 62 yards to the house to give the Beeters a (42-0) edge at that point.
The three turnovers recorded by Chinook defense occurred in the second half, including a last-minute interception deep in their territory to seal the shutout.
Chinook is now (2-2) on the season and will host Shelby for homecoming next Friday night. Kickoff from Hoon Field is scheduled for 7pm.
