A project to build a place for NJ Transit to park trains to keep them safe from floods is ready for construction, but the cost has ballooned by $116 million.

NJ Transit’s Board of Directors Wednesday approved a $497 million contract Wednesday to construct the project, to build storage tracks and an inspection facility off the Northeast Corridor line near New Brunswick. But the price to build it has climbed since the last estimate in its strategic plan pegged the cost at $381 million.
