Sioux City gets public transit infrastructure grant

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The Iowa Transportation Commission approved more than $1.7 million to support four public transit projects. One of those is here in Sioux City.

The city’s transit received $600,000 for their heat pump condenser water piping replacement project. The funds come from the state’s Public Transit Infrastructure Grant Program. It’s for new or improved facilities to support public transit services.

Meanwhile, Sioux City Transit is getting funds to have three of their vehicles replaced. One is a heavy duty bus receiving almost $486,000. A light duty bus with video surveillance system received just over $266,000. A light duty bus with a low floor got more than $154,000.

In total, the Iowa Transportation Commission approved more than $8 million in funding for 39 new public transit vehicles. Those will replace the old ones that are past their life cycle.
