CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) – Major changes could be coming to the West Clermont Local School District after the board of education unanimously approved the first of many steps in its new Master Facilities Plan.
West Clermont Schools is home to nearly 8,000 students and nine schools – seven of which are elementary schools.
On Aug. 27, the district’s Citizen’s Advisory Team presented the Master Facilities Plan to board members. This was a plan the team had been working on for months to address overcrowding and several schools’ infrastructure issues.
More than one week later, the district approved to continue the next steps into the Master Facilities Plan.
Here’s what the plan consists of:
- Fifth graders will be removed from the elementary schools.
- Fifth and 6th graders will share an intermediate building, which will be built on the same campus as a new 7th and 8th grade school.
- The two buildings will be physically connected, however, they will function separately.
- Two new elementary schools will be built: One for Holly Hill and the other for Merwin, which will also implement a plan for preschool.
Superintendent Adams will present the next steps at the next board of education meeting on Oct. 15 after members analyze possible financial, educational and operational impacts.
