IRON MOUNTAIN — A vehicle hit a building on Stephenson Avenue in downtown Iron Mountain early Wednesday afternoon after the driver had an apparent medical episode, according to city police and fire.

The vehicle had stopped on Stephenson Avenue south of Brown Street about noon Wednesday when it went forward onto the curb, struck three concrete flower planters on the sidewalk, then a fire hydrant, before hitting the building on the corner of East Brown Street that is occupied by Blomquist Architects.

Witnesses said it appeared the driver was unconscious, according to a news release from Jeffery Solka, director of the Iron Mountain Police and Fire Department.

The driver was reportedly in stable condition after being taken to Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson.

Police and fire were assisted at the crash site by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, Integrity Care EMS and the Iron Mountain Department of Public Works.
