CASSADAGA — At a recent meeting of the Cassadaga Village Board, safety concerns were raised regarding two roads in the Village.
The safety concerns were brought to the attention of Drew Rodgers and John Penhollow of Chautauqua County. Village Trustee Bill Astry highlighted Maple Avenue and Dale Drive as the areas of most concern. Both are county roads and see frequent speeding with pedestrians using the roads regularly for walking and biking. After discussion, Nancy Wickmark expressed an interest in the matter moving forward as part of the NY Forward Grant process.
Also pertaining to public safety, the Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department responded to 23 calls in the month of July, including 16 emergency medical service calls, as well as 15 calls for mutual aid.
Two new members have joined the Fire Department in recent weeks, and to accommodate their needs, the Village approved the purchase of two new sets of turnout gear at a total cost of $7,882. The Village received $5,847.56 from Chautauqua County EMS insurance billing in the month of June.
and Mayor Bill Dorman recently met with Dan Delcamp regarding the village’s vacant code enforcement officer position. After completing the minimum training requirement to be eligible for the position, the Village Board voted unanimously in favor of Delcamp’s hiring as the village’s code enforcement officer.
The village’s bathhouse at the beach project has seen progress in recent weeks. The septic system is covered back up, with nearly all of the plumbing work completed. The excavator has been returned from the site. Once the final touches have been made to the plumbing, the remaining interior work of the structure can proceed.
Regarding the village’s proposed water project, a notice for public review of proposed activity in a 100-year floodplain has been published, as required. The Request for Qualifications for engineers to express interest in the project will soon be published, as well, so that the Village Board can select who to award the project to.
The Village Board also approved a financial statement as of Aug. 14 reflecting a General Fund balance of $409,908.12 and a Water Fund balance of $47,233.14, with reserve funds for water repairs of $50,373.94.
