Pixel 9 Pro Fold Gets Unboxed For The First Time In Obsidian By A Lucky Customer, Who Noticed An Improved Crease Compared To The Pixel Fold & Other Changes

Must read

Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold quickly ran out of stock just days after it was officially announced, with shipping times slipping into September. Fortunately, the stars aligned for one lucky individual who successfully received his retail unit in the Obsidian finish. Like nearly everyone who receives a premium and expensive smartphone before the rest of us, an image gallery was uploaded to Reddit, followed by an in-depth comparison with the Pixel Fold. Here are some of the differences that were found between the two flagships.

Rear camera bump of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold sticks out like a sore thumb, but that is because the foldable flagship is incredibly thin

Reddit user Ok_Row_3905 posted various images of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold on the social network. The first thing that we noticed was that the device came unfolded to the customer, which is a different approach taken by Google as the original Pixel Fold came folded entirely. As you can tell from the images, the rear camera bump is ridiculously prominent, and that is because the rest of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is exceptionally thin. Also, if you look carefully, you will notice that the single USB-C charging port barely fits around the handset’s exterior.

The new Pixel 9 Pro Fold owner also decided to do a photoshoot with its predecessor, the Pixel Fold, and see what design changes Google implemented this year. Immediately, it was noticed that the creases on both smartphones are worlds apart, but it is still visible on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold when viewed from different angles. You will also spot a major contrast in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s aspect ratio, which is obvious, as it is physically bigger than the Pixel Fold.

One advantage here is that apps will not present that many issues when used on a foldable smartphone with a traditional form factor. While we are certain that there is massive room for improvement, this side-by-side comparison shows that Google’s design and engineering teams really invested a ton of resources and manpower in refining the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. After all, looking at the two devices placed next to each other, no one would have guessed that they were from the same company.
