WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI — There are new businesses popping up everywhere in Washtenaw County, including a fine-dining restaurant in Dexter and a pink café in Ann Arbor.

Here’s some recent business news in Washtenaw County that you may have missed.

What’s that? New restaurant coming to former Fillmore Bar & Grill in Dexter

A new restaurant is set to make its debut in downtown Dexter, filling a vacant building.

The new 42 North Social House plans to open at 7954 Ann Arbor St., which housed The Fillmore Bar & Grill before it closed at end of December.

Marshalls relocating in Ann Arbor’s Arborland shopping center

Marshalls has moved a few buildings down within the Arborland shopping center.

The off-price retailer recently relocated to 3635 Washtenaw Ave. from 3675 Washtenaw Ave. and had its grand opening on Aug. 22.

New business brings chimney cakes, ‘Instagrammable’ pink café to Ann Arbor

A new business is bringing a Hungarian pastry and the color pink to downtown Ann Arbor.

Amanda Debek and her husband are planning to open House of Chimney Cakes Café on Aug. 31 at 216 S. 4th Ave. in downtown Ann Arbor. This is their franchise’s first café location.

Wood-fire focused restaurant coming to Ann Arbor opens food truck

A new food truck in downtown Ann Arbor will take over a corner of Main Street.

Echelon Kitchen + Bar is set to open in the former bd’s Mongolian Grill at 200 S. Main St. in late October. As building work continues, a food truck called Level Up by Echelon will be open in the meantime.

Restauranter to reopen Chelsea Burger, aims to bring old-school bar back to hometown

A local restauranteur is to take over a burger restaurant in downtown Chelsea that has been closed since June 2022.

Dan Kolander plans to bring life back to Chelsea Burger, 110 W. Middle St., with the help of his wife, Sarah. The couple run Dan’s Downtown Tavern in Saline, which has been open for nearly 30 years.

Stone & Spoon set to close after spending 4 years in downtown Ypsilanti

There will soon be one less business in downtown Ypsilanti.

Retailer Stone & Spoon, 110 W. Michigan Ave., is closing on Sept. 1, said Owner Jen Eastridge. The store is known for selling home, kitchen and garden goods since it opened in November 2020.

New business hopes to fill void in custom framing market in downtown Saline

There’s one less vacant storefront in downtown Saline with the opening of a new custom framing shop.

Phoenix Custom Framing & Gallery opened in July at 104 W. Michigan Ave. in the former gift shop location for Rock Paper Scissors, which closed in 2023 along with the company’s toy store next door.

Owner Maren Jackson is sharing 50 dishes and one never-before-seen recipe in her first cookbook to honor the restaurant’s past half century of bringing a full vegetarian menu to the city.
