HPD warns citizens about potentially fraudulent business

HARTFORD — The Hartford Police Department alerted citizens of a possibly fraudulent business, Superior Hartford Gates and Garage, that is operating within the city, on Wednesday.

According to a release from the HPD, it received a notification from a business owner who operates out of an address on West Sumner Street that a possibly fraudulent business was operating with the same address, but with a suite number that doesn’t exist in the building.

An officer then began an investigation into the business by researching it through the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions, which revealed it was not licensed through the state.

“Phone contact was made with the alleged business, who stated they were a mobile installation service and they do not have a brick and mortar storefront,” said the release. “When they were made aware they were talking to law enforcement requesting to speak to management, they hung up on officers.”

A second call was made to the business, and the result was the same as the first, according to the release.

“Officers do not believe the business is legitimate and are not aware of any crimes being committed under the guise of this business,” said the release. “The department warns citizens to always thoroughly research companies before conducting business with them.”

According to the release, if you ever have concerns about the potential legitimacy of a business or potential scams, you can call the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, at 1-800-422-7128, for consumer protection resources and assistance.
