Osceola County Secures $850,000 in Federal Funding for Key Infrastructure Projects

Must read

The Osceola County Board of County Commissioners has successfully secured $850,000 in federal funding to support essential infrastructure improvements within the community. This significant investment will be allocated to two critical projects: the Marigold Avenue Safety Improvement Project and the enhancement of the Whitted neighborhood’s water system.

Marigold Avenue Safety Improvement Project

A substantial portion of the federal funding will be directed towards the Marigold Avenue Safety Improvement Project, aimed at enhancing traffic flow and pedestrian safety along a vital corridor in Osceola County. The project focuses on four key intersections along Marigold Avenue: San Lorenzo Road, San Miguel Road, Laurel Avenue, and Peabody Road, covering a total length of approximately 1.45 miles.

As part of this initiative, new single-lane roundabouts will be constructed at the intersections of Marigold Avenue with Peabody Road, Laurel Avenue, and San Lorenzo Road. These roundabouts are designed to slow down traffic, thereby creating a safer, more pedestrian-friendly environment. Additionally, a new northbound left-turn lane will be installed at the intersection of Marigold Avenue and San Miguel Road to ensure optimal traffic flow.

To further enhance safety, the project will include updated signage and pavement markings across all four intersections. These improvements are expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve overall road safety for residents and visitors alike.

Whitted Neighborhood Water System Upgrade

In addition to the Marigold Avenue project, the Whitted neighborhood will benefit from a critical upgrade to its water system. This project will transition 52 residents from contaminated wells to a modern potable water system, ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water. This upgrade is essential for the health and well-being of the community and represents a significant step forward in addressing long-standing water quality issues.

Congressional Support

These infrastructure improvements were made possible with the assistance of Congressman Darren Soto, who played a key role in securing the federal funding. His support has been instrumental in advancing these projects, which will have a lasting impact on the safety and quality of life for Osceola County residents.

The Osceola County Board of County Commissioners remains committed to enhancing the community through strategic investments in infrastructure. These projects are just the beginning of ongoing efforts to ensure that Osceola County continues to grow and thrive in a safe and sustainable manner.
