U.S air-to-ground connectivity provider SmartSky has closed.

A statement on the organisation’s website clarifies that the business ceased operations effective from August 16, and directs all enquiries to Verdolino & Lowey, a Massachusetts-based accountancy firm that describes itself as having a broad experience in many areas of corporate finance, including bankruptcy and insolvency.

SmartSky announced in 2021 that it has secured $32m equity and debt funding in order to launch next-generation business Wi-Fi, which it described as being ‘office grade’ due to a patented single-beam per aircraft technology. The company later involved itself in a dispute with rival provider GoGo over this technology.

Over the last year, SmartSky had signed distribution and installation deals with a number of companies, including Volato, Brunswick Aviation Services, Banayan Air Services and Hillsboro Aviation.

Customers affected by the closure should email [email protected] in the first instance.
