National Thrift Shop Day marked by back-to-school sustainable shopping

Must read

Shopping sustainably and getting the most bang for your buck- Saturday is National Thrift Shop Day.

The Goodwill of Northern New England is celebrating as parents and kids are getting ready to go back to school.

Thrift shops tend to offer cheaper options for back-to-school supplies.

They are also considered more sustainable, making sure things get more use before being thrown away.

“Whether it’s clothes, whether it’s school supplies, binders, notebooks, that’s what we’re here for and to offer that affordable option,” said Morgan Sewall from Goodwill of Northern New England.

“You never know what you’re going to find. You’re going to find the most unique thing here. You might have something that nobody else has, or you might find that name brand that you’re looking for,” said Sewall.

According to ThredUp- an online secondhand platform- 65-percent of Gen Z and Millennials shopped secondhand last year.

That’s up 5-percent from the year before and on track to surpass 350-billion dollars in the secondhand apparel market by 2028.
