A new airline is coming to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and is launching a nonstop, budget-friendly route this fall.
Avelo Airlines will be the latest addition to the 14 airlines that the New Orleans airport currently hosts, MSY spokesperson Erin Burns confirmed Tuesday. The airline will offer travelers a nonstop route from New Orleans to New Haven, Connecticut.
The new route will start on November 14, 2024, and operate twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays with prices starting at $79. Flight reservations can be made on Avelo’s website.
New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker told Avelo Airlines that MSY airport is “an exceptionally important, new destination” that will create a stronger bond between New Orleans and New Haven.
“Avelo’s nonstop service will strengthen existing ties between our cities and help foster new collaborations in the arts, academia, and innovation,” Elicker said in the press release.
Kevin Dolliole, MSY airport’s director of aviation, said in the press release that the affordable and convenient options provided by Avelo goes hand-in-hand with the New Orleans airport’s mission to bring passengers successful travel experiences.
“This route opens exciting opportunities for our travelers, whether they’re visiting family, exploring new destinations, or traveling for business,” Dolliole said in the press release.
Avelo touts itself for being “America’s most convenient airline” that offers affordable air travel while serving over 50 destinations from various bases across the United States. The airline launched in 2021.
