WHITEVILLE, N.C. (WECT) – The City of Whiteville has sent a letter providing updates to the Mollie’s Branch Stream Restoration and Infrastructure Improvements project as of June.

Grants have either been committed or received from FEMA, NCEM and GLF to fully fund the construction of the project, which exceed $5,000,000.

A design team composed of Gresham Smith, Biohabitats, and Stewart is progressing toward completion of the necessary designs, permitting reports, and drawing sets. The submission of the final construction documents to Fema for review is expected by spring of 2025.

“The proposed designs remain consistent with the goals and intent of the schematic designs and public feedback received as part of the “Whiteville Floodprint” effort,” the city wrote in a press release here.

The final report adopted by the city can be viewed here.

Also, during the fall, the City and CDDL will engage with property owners along Mollie’s Branch to discuss and finalize anticipated ‘Limit of Work’ boundaries for the project.

Temporary and/or permanent easements on residential properties within the existing stream area may be required.

A future optional meeting regarding updates will be held at the Dream Center on August 19 from 5 to 6 p.m.
