Google Pixel 9 Is Getting A New Weather App, Going For A Minimal Design And Leaving Animations Out

Must read

With the Pixel 9 series ready to roll out at the Made by Google event on August 13th, many reports have emerged giving away the details and specifications of the upcoming models, leaving little for the imagination. While we would think we know everything there is to know about the lineup before the big reveal, a new leak suggests that the tech giant is planning to bring some interesting changes to its weather app for the next-generation Pixel series.

Google is opting for a new minimal design for its weather app on the Pixel 9 series

The Pixel 9 lineup has been the center of attention, especially with Google’s big unveiling event just around the corner. The rumor mill seems to be in full swing and giving away significant details about the camera upgrades, sizes, colors, and other advancements sorted for the upcoming models. A new leak suggests that Google will release a weather app exclusive to the series.

As reported by Android Authority, Google is working on a revamped weather app for the upcoming Pixel 9 despite the company undergoing major tweaks last year. This app would be part of the current Pixel weather app but would feature a new design and other significant improvements. The Weather app would first be reserved for the Pixel 9 but would expand to other Pixel devices later.

At first glance, one might feel it is similar to the existing weather app as the layout did not change much, but the cluttered look is now gone. Google is opting for a minimal design this time around, leaving the animation out, and we do not spot Froggy (the weather frog) anywhere. The background color also changes depending on the weather conditions, and the gradient displayed seems more subtle. The new Weather app will have a customization option to drag and change items according to your preference. The temperature will be shown in larger icons, improving its visibility and aesthetics and focusing more on the temperature and the weather conditions.

The location selection screen has also been redesigned, with information appearing in a larger font. This makes getting the information you need easy and visually more appealing than the previous version. The lack of animation gives it a more subtle look overall but takes a little fun away. Google opting for this new weather app would be a nice change, and we could see more about it at the keynote.
