BROCTON — The Village of Brocton got a lot of attention for its decision to leave Chadwick Bay Intermunicipal Water Works at the end of the year, but it was a different water-related matter that came up at a recent meeting of the Village Board.

Highway Superintendent Ken Becker suggested that the Village Board start planning for what to do with its buildings located at the village’s reservoir.

“You guys are going to have to think of a long-term plan of what is going to go on up there,” Becker said.

Becker noted two 500,000-gallon tanks that need to be filled or secured, along with two buildings that need to be maintained or addressed. The Village Board later gave approval to clear brush from the dam, as requested by the State Department of Environmental Conservation.

In other news in the Village, the Brocton Fire Department responded to 41 calls in the month of June. Four building permits were issued in the month, along with three violations.

The Village will also look into mitigating speeding issues on Central Avenue, as well as garbage concerns and loose animals. Mayor Craig Miller vowed to look into all of the matters brought to him by the public at the recent meeting.

The Board also adopted the updated Chautauqua County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.
