Macomb County infrastructure strained by heavy rainfall

Must read

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Metro Detroit saw significant rainfall overnight that resulted in a Flash Flood Warning being issued Friday, Aug. 2, for Wayne and Macomb counties.

In addition to flooded freeways and roads, many residents are cleaning up after their basements flooded.

Those impacted by the water in St. Clair Shores are blaming the newly upgraded pumping station on Nine Mile Road, but Macomb County officials said the pump was operational and that the area was just hit with four inches of rain in about two hours. That’s a significant amount of water to pump. The pumping station opened up its emergency bypass, which saved a lot of homeowners from flooded basements.

Officials in Warren said the storm produced three inches of rain within one hour and most of its infrastructure was designed to accommodate two inches of rain or less.
