JAMESTOWN — The defending national champion Jamestown Community College women’s swimming and diving team added another local swimmer to the roster as Sophia Gervasio of Chautauqua Lake signed to join the Jayhawks.

“I’m excited to join the defending national champs and get a chance to learn from some great coaches. I just knew JCC swimming is a good fit for me,” said Gervasio.

The former Thunderbird plans to swim the distance events and backstroke for Jamestown. While swimming at Chautauqua Lake, she finished 3rd in the 100-yard backstroke in CCAA. She was also a sectional finalist in three different events.

Academically, Gervasio is undecided on a major but knows JCC will be a great place to explore all options.

“I knew it was a small campus and tight-knit. It isn’t too big, and I can make connections,” added Sophia.

Gervasio continues an impressive summer of recruiting for JCC head coach Todd Conklin, who has to fill the void left by five female All-American swimmers graduating from the program.
