Cleveland Clinic ranks No. 1 nationwide in cardiology

CLEVELAND — U.S. News & World Report released its rankings for the best hospitals of 2023-2024 Tuesday, and Cleveland Clinic took the top spot for cadiology, heart and vascular surgery. 

For its ranking, U.S. News & World Report evaluated nearly 800 heart hospitals and ranked the top 50. It was based on the type of care the hospitals offer, including heart transplants, implantation of cardiac devices like pace makers, major chest prodecures and more.

Additionally, the report looked at survival rates, patient experience and other measures of performance from available data, according to its website.

Out of 100 points, Cleveland Clinic scored a 100 for the specialty. It also scored well in a variety of other specialties:

  • Urology: 2nd place
  • Rheumatology: 3rd place
  • Geriatrics: 6th place
  • Obstetrics and gynecology: 6th place
  • Gastroenterology and GI surgery: 8th place
  • Cancer treatment: 10th place
  • Pulmonology and lung surgery: 13th place
  • Orthopedics: 15th place
  • Neurology and neurosurgery: 16th place
  • Diabetes and endocrinology: 24th place
  • Ear, nose and throat: 25th place
  • Rehabilitation: 38th place

Overall, the hospital is nationally ranked in 12 adult and 10 pediatric specialties. It has more than 270 outpatients centers, 80 hospitals and over 80,000 caregivers across the world, according to its website. It has an economic impact of more than $21 billion in Ohio, and more than $34 billion in the U.S. 

In February, Cleveland Clinic was ranked as the second-best hospital in the world by Newsweek.
