Oregon-based flooring company expanding into Tri-Cities

A family-owned Oregon-based flooring and countertop company plans to open a warehouse and showroom in Kennewick early next year.

Paulson’s Floor Coverings, based in Tigard, Oregon, has been renting space in the Tri-Cities and working directly with contractors here for about 1 ½ years, said owner Tyler Paulson. The rental space wasn’t open to the public.

But “we really like the Tri-Cities and see the potential, and we decided to buy a building for a warehouse and showroom,” Paulson said.

The new location – which will be the company’s seventh total in Oregon and Washington – is expected to open in January 2025.

Paulson’s Floor Coverings bought the 0.42-acre property at 8340 W. Gage Blvd. for $1.06 million. Todd Sternfeld with NAI Tri-Cities, a commercial real estate brokerage firm, represented the company in the sale.

The property has a 13,200-square-foot building, according to Benton County property records. Paulson’s intends to do an extensive remodel.

The cost hasn’t been finalized; plans still are in the works and a contractor for the project hasn’t yet been settled on, Paulson said.

He’s the fourth generation of his family to run the business, which provides “pretty much anything you put on a floor or countertop,” he said.

Paulson runs the company alongside his brother Ryan.

The company dates to the 1920s, when Guy W. Paulson – Tyler and Ryan’s great-grandfather – started making window shades out of his home.

“Guy measured and took orders from homebuilders, while his wife, Bess, cut and fabricated the orders for him to install the following day,” according to a history on the company website. The business eventually evolved and expanded; today, it has locations in Bend, the Portland area and Vancouver, Washington. Expanding into the Tri-Cities makes sense, Paulson said.

“We’ve really enjoyed the area, and we’re really excited to come and serve the Tri-Cities community as a whole,” Paulson said.
