Manchester Airport has reopened following a power failure that forced two of the three terminals at the UK’s busiest airport outside of London to close on Sunday (June 23).
The airport has reported that it has expected the airport to be busier than normal, and that it has put extra staff in place to keep up with demand. There is no word from the airport yet regarding what caused the power failure, or why backup systems were not in place.

Incoming flights were diverted to other UK airports, with flights from Singapore and Texas landing at Heathrow and Gatwick, both over 200 miles (320km) from MAN.
Following the outage in the early hours of Sunday morning, scores of outgoing flights were cancelled, and passengers that did manage to get away through the terminal that still had power on often found that they had departed without check luggage, as the airport’s baggage delivery systems were offline.
“We are working with airlines to ensure passengers are reunited with luggage as soon as possible,” the airport said in a statement. “We apologise for any inconvenience. Your airline will be in contact with you about the process for receiving your bag if it is delayed”.
