Uruguay’s national team, La Celeste, has experienced a mix of triumphs and heartbreaks in recent major tournaments. They narrowly missed out on the 2021 Copa America title, falling to Colombia in the quarter-final on penalties, a defeat that had the football world in utter shock. As if this disappointment was not enough, Uruguay qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but failed to advance to the knockout stages as they won only a game throughout the group stages and it wasn’t enough to send them through to the knockout stages.

The La Celeste has consistently demonstrated a strong team spirit and tactical discipline, often punching above their weight. The emergence of talented young players like Darwin Nunez, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Federico Valverde has brought a new kind of energy and dynamics to the team.

With a pool of young and energetic players at his disposal this time around, Bielsa will focus more on offensive play which we witnessed in the international friendlies rather than his usual defending tactics. It’s going to be a blend of young blood completed by veterans like Luis Suarez and other highly experienced players in the squad. Bielsa has to make it to the final of the Copa America and we are confident in him and the players.

Uruguay’s squad for the 2024 Copa America is expected to be a mix of young talents and experienced players which was the same blend of players at the 2022 World Cup. First, Inter Miami striker and Uruguay’s all-time leading scorer Luis Suarez has been included in Uruguay’s 26-man squad for the Copa America in the United States. Luis Suarez who is Uruguay’s all-time leading scorer with 68 goals from 138 international caps will grace the field one more time and represent his country. In light of this new development, Darwin Nunez has also relinquished the no 9 jersey to the great Luis Suarez, and he will take on the number 19 jersey.

We believe there’s no replacement for Sergio Rochet on goal as he will be the first-choice goalkeeper. Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo and Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez will lead Uruguay’s defense as they are top defenders playing at the highest club levels while supported by Mathias Olivera of Napoli, Nicolas Marichal, Matias Vina (Flamengo), Lucas Olaza (Krasnodar) amongst others. Real Madrid’s youngster Federico Valverde will lead the midfield as always, assisted by Tottenham’s Bentacur with Manuel Ugarte also in for a show.

Uruguay’s all-time goal-scorer Luis Suarez will be available for the Euros as he has been called back into the squad and we expect a masterclass from him at the Euros. Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez will also be up-front alongside Facundo Pellistri, Brian Ocampo, and others.

La Celeste will play their first match of the tournament on June 24 against Panama, we believe that Uruguay will have an easy time defeating Panama in the opening game and get their campaign off to a good start.

Uruguay will then take on a familiar opponent in the Copa America, Bolivia on June 28. Uruguay has always gotten the better of Bolivia and we do not expect any surprises here.

La Celeste will finally play their last group-stage game against the USA, the hosts who appear to be their strongest opponents in Group C on the 2nd of July.

Uruguay has an exceptional team and with these players having achieved great success in their clubs this year, we should expect a formidable run at the Copa America. Bielsa’s goal will be to win another Copa America for Uruguay and with his current squad it might just be a matter of time.

Uruguay will finish top of Group C with the most goals scored in the Group as they appear to be the strongest team in Group C and also the team with the most prolific forwards. We believe that Uruguay will finish top of Group C ahead of the hosts USA.
