RideShare Hosts Inaugural Bike Month Business Challenge in Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA –  RideShare is excited to announce the success of the inaugural Bike Month Business Challenge held in Charlottesville this May. To celebrate Bike Month, fourteen businesses across the community participated in friendly competition, showcasing their commitment to employee wellness, sustainability, and biking.

Results
The challenge resulted in impressive outcomes:

  • 823 total miles biked by participating businesses
  • 480 bike trips taken by employees
  • 685.2 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions reduced

Winners!
We extend a special congratulations to:

  • City of Charlottesville: Winner for most bike miles traveled per participating employee (94.3 miles)
  • UVA Office of Sustainability: Winner for most bike trips per employee (49.5 trips)

Building a More Sustainable Community
RideShare is proud to have played a role in promoting a healthier and more sustainable Charlottesville. The Bike Month Business Challenge not only encouraged alternative transportation but also fostered a sense of community and friendly competition.

RideShare is a free service operated by the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission and the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission for residents, workers, commuters, and tourists in Virginia’s cities of Buena Vista, Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Staunton and Waynesboro; and the counties of Albemarle, Augusta, Bath, Fluvanna, Greene, Highland, Louisa, Nelson, Rockbridge and Rockingham.

The Commission has partnered with the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) and their Virginia-wide ConnectingVA program to provide free ridematching to find carpools, vanpools, and all forms of public transportation, trip planning, and information on park-and-ride lots, bike share services, electric vehicle charging stations, and rewards.
