BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham announced a $9.3 million 2024 Infrastructure Improvement Plan for the city on Thursday.
Broken down, around $2.6 million will go toward milling and paving around 45 streets, around $790,000 will go toward full street reconstructions, $4.6 million will go toward water and sewage upgrades and around $1.3 million will go toward curb, sidewalk and ADA upgrades.
“This construction season, crews will be working in neighborhoods across Binghamton to improve our City’s critical infrastructure, from paving roads and repairing sidewalks to upgrading water and sewer systems,” said Mayor Kraham. “This year’s infrastructure improvement plan invests millions of dollars in bringing positive change to our neighborhoods, supporting good-paying construction jobs, and promoting growth across Binghamton.”
Of note, Matthews Street, Mulberry Street, Vestal Avenue, Blackstone Avenue, Oliver Street and Lydia Street are set to be paved or reconstructed. The funding for water and sewer work will upgrade underground water and sewer systems before the streets are paved, as needed.
The city noted that it uses the pavement rating technology “RoadBotics” to help build the annual street improvement plan. RoadBotics uses artificial intelligence to map and analyze all 151 miles of city streets, assigning numerical ratings to streets based on their condition.
The project is being funded by a combination of the Consolidated Local Street & Highway Improvement Program, grant funding, Community Development Block Grant, funds, federal stimulus funds and local capital bond.
