BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — A student from Drakes Creek Middle school has been named one of the finalists of the 16th annual Doodle for Google contest, according to the Kentucky Department of Education.
Google asked students across the country to submit their ideas for the contest, with the prompt being, “My wish for the next 25 years” through art in honor of Google’s 25th anniversary.
Student Aleesha Niyorukundo said her doodle represents “a world at peace.”
“This will allow people to have fair learning opportunities, children to be themselves and not worry about the safety of their countries and people to focus on making the Earth a cleaner place. It will allow poverty and homelessness to be solved,” said Niyorukundo.
Other students submitted art that had a similar theme, including a wish for safer communities, a cleaner planet and greater unity among people.
Niyorukundo was one of 55 state and territory winners that were selected as a finalist and each student received hardware, swag and also had celebrations for celebrate their artwork in their hometowns.
