Fredonia names new assistant principal

Must read

Andrea Marsh

A new administrator is part of the Fredonia family. Andrea Marsh was approved as the new Assistant Principal of Fredonia Middle School at a recent Board of Education meeting. Her employment will commence July 1.

Superintendent Dr. Brad Zilliox spoke to a connection the District has with its future planning to Marsh’s experience. Board of Education President Brian Aldrich also noted how impressed he was throughout the interview process.

A SUNY Fredonia graduate and recipient of a Student Teacher of the Year award, Marsh previously worked as an Elementary Principal in Jamestown and as an Assistant Principal at the Middle School level, as well. She also served as an instructional coach. Marsh has a strong focus on literacy in her past, along with restorative practices, which Zilliox said is an area where the District has “some room to grow.”

“I have a lot to offer with literacy, and reading and (English – Language Arts) curriculum is something I’m passionate about. I’m excited to bring all those skills here,” Marsh said.

Marsh, who attended the recent meeting, spoke after spending more than 100 minutes in the audience through three prior presentations before her appointment was announced. Marsh noted the interview process was “wonderful” and stated she has already spoken with Principal Jamie Polhamus about plans for next year.

Marsh also noted, “I had more connections with Fredonia than I thought I did.” Through the interview process, she learned of several former colleagues who are also now at Fredonia.

“I really love the middle school world,” Marsh said. “We have a lot of ways to influence kids at the middle school level, and a lot of challenges that we have to work through when they are in middle school. I’m excited to get started.”
