BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Bay County is growing, causing more traffic on our roadways. To help alleviate traffic pains on popular roadways, county officials say they are working on two projects.
These two projects are aimed at preparing for the inevitable growth of the area and the safety of those who are traveling to and from Bay County.
A light is being added on State Road 390 behind the new Publix in Panama City. We are told homes are being built in that area and this will contribute to more growth.
County staff say they are also changing the timing for the light at the intersection of Titus Road and Lindsey Crossing. That light was added for safety measures, officials say it is slowing down traffic. Pipeline Road and 231 will also be getting a new light to help improve the safety of those who live in nearby neighborhoods.
“We have a lot of traffic, and we have a solution coming but we need relief today,” said Keith Bryant, Bay County, chief infrastructure officer. “231 is a high-speed road and if you get into an accident, it’s not having a fender bender it will be a significant accident anything we can do to increase safety along 231 is something we want to do.”
Commissioners say there is a need for intersection improvements throughout the county. The projects are expected to start sometime this year.
Staff says this will tie into helping manage the roadways when 231 becomes a 6-lane road.
