Art Discovery Program debuts at village church

Must read

The Art Discovery Program has moved to the Fredonia Presbyterian Church.

The Art Discovery Program is officially opening their exhibit at their new home at the Fredonia Presbyterian Church. On Monday, the church hosted the official opening exhibit and community reception, with the theme of the exhibit being “Telling our stories through art.” The program’s director, Lucy Andrus, is looking forward to officially celebrating their new home.

“I’m delighted to invite the community to help us celebrate Art Discovery’s move to Fredonia Presbyterian Church,” said Andrus. “The Church, its leadership and its congregation have been so enthusiastic about welcoming the program into their space and are excited about connecting with the community through this arts ministry which is open to all.”

While this is the official opening of the new exhibit, the program has called this place home for what is now two semesters of work. Andrus is excited to show off the work of her students at the opening exhibit.

“We just finished our second semester at Fredonia Presbyterian and I’m so proud of our participants, their artwork, and what we have accomplished together,” said Andrus. “Everyone is excited to share their work with the public at our reception, and we hope to inspire and encourage others, especially those with no prior art experience, to discover their own untapped creativity through artmaking.”

Previously based in Brocton, Andrus has hosted the Art Discovery program since 2019, and has had many different themes for her students over these last five years. Before the theme of “telling our stories through art,” Andrus spent the previous semester having her students focus on making a difference in the world. Other themes have included focusing on other people’s cultures and making art inspired by those cultures.

The exhibit is at the Fredonia Presbyterian Church at 219 Central Ave. in Fredonia.
