Fredonia Superintendent Dr. Brad Zilliox described the interview process with a recent hire of the District at the latest Fredonia Board of Education meeting.

The Fredonia Central School District welcomed back a familiar face to fill an opening in its Social Studies department, as the District approved a new teacher to join the team at a recent meeting of the Board of Education.

Sebastian Guerra, a graduate of Fredonia High School, was hired to a probationary appointment in the social studies tenure area, commencing on Aug. 27. Guerra possesses Initial Certification in Social Studies Grades 7-12 and has been working in the Buffalo area as a Social Studies Teacher.

“He will make a good addition to our Middle School team in a Social Studies position,” Superintendent Dr. Brad Zilliox said. “We’re excited and look forward to having him come back to Fredonia and be back onboard with us.”

During the interview process, Guerra described how his Fredonia Middle School Teacher Tim Wright encouraged him to join the football team as a student at Fredonia, which he considered a big impact on his experience at Fredonia.

Zilliox said, “As soon as he started playing football, everything at Fredonia opened up for him.”

The District also approved the appointment of Ann Johnson as a Teaching Assistant; Sara Centner as a Teacher Aide; Peg Brisky as School Secretary; and Abbey Whitcher as Clerk II. The District also appointed four substitutes: Corinne Trommer, William Rose, Bradley Nelson, and Gardenys Wuerstle.

Resignations were accepted from Special Education Teacher Ruth Hewson and Teaching Assistant Michelle Meli. Each resignation takes effect after the school year concludes.

The District also awarded bids to contractors for its 2023-24 Capital Outlay Project, upon recommendations from Zilliox and Young and Wright Architectural. The construction bid for blacktop replacement was awarded to Louis Del Prince and Sons, Inc., with a base bid of $43,000 and a total cost of $57,700. The construction bid for flooring replacement of several rooms within the District was awarded to GP Flooring Solutions in the amount of $15,860.69.
