Betty Baker, 95 formerly of Buffalo Street, Silver Creek passed away peacefully on May 16, at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab.
Betty was born in Buffalo on April 19, 1929, the daughter of Rose and John Spies. She was the loving spouse of Albert Baker Jr (deceased) for 73 years and had 2 sons, Donald (Trish) Baker of Lakewood, Colorado and Al (Nancy) Baker, III of Silver Creek, New York.
After graduating from high school in Buffalo, Betty went on to work for the telephone company. Later in life, she was an employee at M&T Bank in Silver Creek. She worked right alongside Al to build their Buffalo Street home; an accomplishment they were both very proud of. Betty was an accomplished seamstress, often making her own gowns for dances she would attend with Al and their many friends.
Betty loved to travel and she and Al visited many places in the US and Canada. Her favorite destination was Colorado, where she could see her beloved grandchildren Todd, Scott and Jennifer. Betty enjoyed bowling and camping with their many camping buddies. She and Al became “snowbirds” living for the winters in Fruitland Park, Florida, where she developed close and lasting friendships. Betty enjoyed playing cards, following the Buffalo Bills, being involved in the Lady’s Guild at Trinity Lutheran Church in Silver Creek and playing bingo with the many friends she made while living at Fredonia Place.
She treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she was extremely proud of; Todd Baker and his son Noah and daughter Macy of Highlands Ranch Colorado, Scott and Jennifer Baker and their daughters, Aubrey and Ayla of Lakewood, Colorado, Jennifer and Corey Hillingshead and their daughters Skyler and Payton of Littleton, Colorado, Robert Lawrie Jr of Dunkirk, Jess Lawrie and her daughter Del Rose of Silver Creek and Alysha Baker of Chicago, Illinois.
Betty was a determined, friendly and proud woman, who made friends easily and cherished her family above all else. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Betty’s final selfless act, among many throughout her lifetime, was donating her body to the University of Buffalo Anatomical Gift Program. A private family service will take place at a future date. Donations can be made in Betty’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church, Silver Creek, NY.
