Google’s recent announcements have all been about AI and Gemini, its new AI-powered digital assistant. Over the past few weeks, the company has started rolling out Gemini integration with a lot of products, including Workspace and YouTube.

Now, Google has started rolling out access to Gemini inside the Google Messages app (via 9To5Google).

You can talk to Gemini inside Google Messages

Over the past few days, several Google Messages users have started getting access to Gemini. But this isn’t full-fledged Gemini integration that allows you to summarize messages or intelligently find things inside your messages. Instead, you can just talk to Gemini inside a chat thread, like you’re talking to a friend.

When you click on the New Message button, Gemini appears first in your contact list. When you click on Gemini, a chat thread appears and you can type whatever you want to convey that to Gemini. You can also upload images to provide more context.

The story continues after the video…

As per the app, Gemini inside Google Messages has been designed to help you “draft messages, brainstorm ideas, plan events, or simply have a fun conversation.” You can also access data from Google Maps, Workspace, and YouTube. However, there is no access to YouTube Music yet. It could be released soon, as the Gemini app recently received a YouTube Music extension.

All the conversations you have with Gemini inside Google Messages appear to be happening over RCS. So, it is important that you have support for RCS in your country and on your carrier. This new feature is reportedly rolling out worldwide (for English and Canadian French users) except for India, Switzerland, the EEA, and the UK.
