Pomfret appears ready to move from its current location on Day Street.

Pomfret Town Hall looks set to move.

The Pomfret Town Board has called a special meeting Thursday at 5:30 p.m. “for the purpose of considering authorizing a contract to buy lands and building for a Town Hall,” according to a notice on the town website’s calendar.

Town Supervisor Dan Pacos said Wednesday morning he did not want to disclose the potential location of the new Town Hall, until the board has had a chance to meet Thursday.

Pomfret town officials, including Pacos, have complained for years about the current Town Hall on Day Street in the village of Fredonia. They say it’s far too cramped.

In a 2023 OBSERVER article, the town noted it received a $440,000 grant for the move with the help of U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and was planning on using American Rescue Plan Act funding for it.

“We’re still looking at a town hall where there might be more space,” Pacos said then. “Building costs are just too high right now, so we are trying to find a building that would be more economical for us to move into.”
