The Career and Technical Education (CTE) program in Construction Technologies represents an exciting opportunity for students at Ray. This innovative pilot program launched in January of this year. This program uses an interdisciplinary approach to education, emphasizing hands-on application of skills that are vital in today’s job market. The program ensures that students are equipped with relevant and practical abilities upon completion.

At the heart of this program is veteran teacher, Jeff Cude, who guides students through various technical disciplines, including welding, electrical work, plumbing, and construction. Each of these fields not only offers unique challenges but also fosters essential skills that can lead to many employment opportunities after graduation. Students engage in project-based learning, which allows them to apply foundational concepts from Math, Science, and English Language Arts in real-world scenarios. This integration of core subjects into practical tasks enhances a student’s understanding and prepares them for future careers.

Students receive direct instruction in core academics through Khan Academy, a digital learning platform that tracks their progress and mastery of educational standards. This resource enables students to receive tailored support, ensuring that they meet their individual learning goals.

In addition to Construction Technologies, there are plans to implement four more CTE programs at Ray beginning in July. The proposed programs include Agricultural Science, Early Childhood Education, Performing Arts and Sports Medicine. This expansion reflects a commitment to providing students with a broad range of options that cater to their interests and career aspirations. The Construction Technologies program is not just about learning technical skills; it is about preparing students for the future by equipping them with the tools they need to succeed in a competitive job market.

The enthusiasm among students in the Construction Technologies program is evident. They recognize the value of acquiring practical skills that are in high demand across various industries. By participating in this program, students are taking proactive steps toward securing their futures, making informed choices about their career paths, and developing skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

Ray’s Career and Technical Education program in Construction Technologies stands as a model for innovative learning. By combining hands-on experience with academics, it prepares students for real-world challenges while fostering a love for learning. As the program develops, it will continue to allow students to explore their interests and hone their marketable skills for a competitive job market.
