WESTBOROUGH — An Italian restaurant on East Main Street is set to close this weekend after 16 years in business.
Tavolino announced Feb. 19 on Facebook that its 33 East Main St. (Route 30) location would close on March 1. The post stated that staff members were devastated by the news, but did not reveal why the restaurant was closing.
“It has been an absolute pleasure to host each and every one of you,” the Facebook post reads. “Whether it was a casual lunch at the bar, celebrating a family birthday, hosting a wedding reception or preparing to welcome a new addition to the family …we thank you for allowing us the honor to be a part of those special and truly precious moments.”
The post was signed by Executive Chef Kevin Sanders and General Manager Abigail Winant.
Winant did not return phone calls seeking comment.
Who owns the Tavolino restaurants?
Tavolino’s Westborough restaurant opened in 2009. A second Tavolino, at Patriot Place in Foxborough, remains open.
According to the website for the Foxborough location, “tavolino,” when translated literally, means “little table” in Italian.
According to records filed with the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth, Tavolino is owned by Better Food, LLC. That entity is owned by Graham Silliman, who could not be reached for comment.
Better Food, LLC, also owns Citizen Crust in Patriot Place and Siena, an Italian restaurant at Mashpee Commons.
