SK telecom to showcase AI-driven network technologies

Must read

SK telecom Co. will showcase its network artificial intelligence (AI) technology at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world’s largest mobile communications exhibition, set to take place from March 3rd to 6th, 2025, in Barcelona. The telecom carrier announced Wednesday that it will demonstrate its AI radio access network (AI-RAN) technology, which integrates various chipsets, including graphics processing units (GPUs), into general-purpose servers to support both telecommunications and AI services. AI-RAN enhances AI service efficiency by allocating surplus RAN resources to AI inference tasks. SK telecom will also introduce technologies for integrating and managing distributed AI infrastructure, enabling AI service environments for customers along with AI-based network analysis functions designed to improve communication quality. The company will additionally unveil AI routing technology that leverages on-device AI to process simple AI tasks directly on devices, reducing server workload. The technology dynamically determines whether a large language model (LLM) server or a small language model (SLM) device offers the best inference performance and assigns tasks accordingly. Furthermore, SK telecom will present its latest research on integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), a next-generation mobile communication technology that collects environmental data using radio signals. ISAC enables precise environmental sensing by analyzing how communication frequency signals reflect off objects and human bodies.
