Wemby seen shopping at a local antique store

Must read

Victor Wembanyama may be out for the season, but he is still drawing attention wherever he goes.

Last weekend, Wemby visited the Ironside Antique Mall.

The owners posted on social media thanking the Spurs big man for shopping a local business.

This one hit close to home for me as when I was a kid, I worked in the same shopping center. Sure, it was thirty-five years ago and the Handy Andy where In worked my first job is now a Big Lots, but it still feels like the soon-to-be greatest basketball player of all time is not only in our own backyard but realistically could be just around the corner.

Then again, that is the beauty of San Antonio. It’s the seventh largest city in the United States, but it has a small town feel. Our local celebrities and favorite players frequent many family-owned businesses. They feel accessible and seem grateful.

I have run into Bruce Bowen at H-E-B, been seated next to David Robinson at Los Barrios, and served Avery Johnson at Jason’s Deli. At neighborhood gathering last year, I turned around and saw Brent Barry standing on my front lawn.

These are not uncommon occurrences, especially if you’ve lived here over time.

For those of you living here locally, have you encountered Spurs players out and about?
