MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCSC) – An incident report released Monday provides a few new details about a gun incident late Friday afternoon at a shopping center in Mount Pleasant.
Police have not yet released the name of the 19-year-old man or specific charges he faces.
Officers responded to the Belle Station Family Restaurant on Belle Station Boulevard at approximately 4:30 p.m. Friday to a report of someone pointing and presenting a firearm.
The restaurant’s manager told police a man left the restaurant after pointing the pistol at one of her employees and then left the restaurant a short time later, walking toward his gray BMW sedan.
An incident report states the witness did not see where the man went after that.
Police checked the nearby Planet Fitness gym, whose manager told them he saw the man enter the gym’s restroom but did not see him leave. Officers cleared out the gym and held a position there but later determined no one was inside the restroom or the restroom’s storage room, the report states.
Police later made contact with the 19-year-old man, who police say admitted to having the weapon and showing it to the victim, who Sgt. Robert Blaschke identified as an underage youth. The man told police, however, that the gun was not loaded at the time.
Officers later towed the man’s vehicle and executed a search warrant, finding a Smith & Wesson 9mm gun in the truck of the vehicle and “bullets were found throughout the vehicle” during the search, the report states.
Police immediately cordoned off the shopping center in the area of Planet Fitness and asked drivers to avoid the area while they searched for the man.
Hours after the incident was reported, police cleared the scene, saying they had determined it was an isolated incident between two people who know each other and that they had identified a suspect.
